Profile: Michael Del Vecchio, OUSD-I Senior Cyber Adviser

Michael Del Vecchio
Michael Del Vecchio serves as senior adviser for cyber capabilities and operations support to the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense-Intelligence, where he guides development of cyber strategies, intelligence, operations and policy.
In 2005, he began his service as the National Security Agency’s senior official assigned to the National Reconnaissance Office, where he also served as deputy director for NRO’s signals intelligence acquisition and operations directorate, deputy chief operating officer and deputy director of the mission support directorate.
He was promoted to NSA’s Senior Executive Service in 2001 and served as chief of operations at a large overseas station between 2003 and 2005.
Other positions at NSA included chief of mission plans, chief of staff for operations at an overseas field site, access and production line management positions and at organizations within the operations directorate.
Del Vecchio is a recipient of the NRO Gold Medal for Distinguished Service and NSA’s Exceptional Civilian Service Award and Meritorious Civilian Service Award. While serving at a foreign field site, he led efforts that were recognized with three DCI Meritorious Unit Citations and the Travis Trophy, which recognizes the NSA’s best field mission.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in military history and economics and also holds master’s degrees from Georgetown University in national security studies and from Johns Hopkins University in information technology management.
Del Vecchio also graduated from the National War College with a master’s degree in national strategy and graduated from the Kellogg Business School executive development program.
